Alternatives
Runna alternatives.
Most people searching for a Runna alternative are not unhappy with the plans. They are looking at $19.99 a month and wondering whether there is something that does the job for less. Here is what Runna actually includes, and what the alternatives trade away.
Part of our guide to Strength training for female runners .
Runna is a subscription at $19.99/month or $119.99/year, requires an account, and includes strength alongside running. FitBoost plans running and strength too, is free with no subscription, and needs no account, but has no coaching, no race-day pace strategy depth and is iPhone only.
What Runna actually includes
Worth being accurate, because Runna is often described as running-only and that is out of date. Its own site headlines "Running made simple", covers 5K through ultramarathon, and includes personalised strength, conditioning and mobility built to fit alongside the running plan, customisable by level, equipment and schedule, including bodyweight-only.
So the honest framing is not "Runna does running, FitBoost does both". Both plan both. The difference is what it costs and what it asks of you.
What it costs
A subscription: $19.99 per month or $119.99 per year, with the first week free and some free plans available. An account is required before you can use it. iOS and Android.
FitBoost as the free alternative
FitBoost plans running and strength into one weekly schedule and adapts it to what you complete. The trade is straightforward:
- Free, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads, nothing expires
- No account, no email address, no password
- Works offline, because the plan is built on the device
- iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only, no Android
- No coaching, no community, and far less race-specific depth than a paid running product
- New, with not enough App Store ratings yet to show a score
When Runna is the better choice
If you are training for a specific race and want the depth of a product built around race preparation, or you are on Android, Runna is the better answer and the subscription buys something real.
FitBoost is the right call if the subscription is the reason you are here, or you want to try something without handing over an email address first.
Method and limits
Everything stated about Runna comes from its own public website, checked in August 2026. Prices are the ones listed there and vary by region and over time, check the App Store for current pricing. We have not trained a full block on Runna.
This page is published by FitBoost and is not independent. It names the cases where Runna is the better product because a comparison that never does is not a comparison.

How FitBoost builds these schedules
The placement rules on this page are the ones the app applies: hard sessions spaced apart, heavy lower body kept away from the key run, upper body used as the session that interferes least, and rest planned rather than left over. In the app they run against your own history, what you completed, what you skipped and what you reported as too hard, rather than against a template.
We do not claim a clinical review of this page. It is training guidance, not medical advice, and anything involving pain, injury, pregnancy or the postpartum period belongs with a professional who can assess you. FitBoost has no postpartum programme today.
